Tips to Help You Catch Bass From Your Flats Boat
While we know a shallow water fishing boat is perfect for catching fish close to the shore on the flats, you may need a few tips to help you catch the perfect Bass. Below are a few hints and tips to consider:
- Save your shredded plastic worms as Bass have a tendency to ambush prey that is wounded. Shredded or damaged plastic worms are a perfect bait.
- Sharpen your hooks before a fishing trip to insure they will be more likely to penetrate the boney jaw of the Bass.
- Fish with the wind in your face as Bass swim with the current. This way they will find the bait before they encounter your boat and any lapping noise of water on your hull will be carried away from where you are fishing.
- Offer seasonal bait to Bass as they change what they eat depending on the time of year. Use peach colored bait in winter and spring as this is when they typically eat crawfish. Use silver or chrome baits in summer and autumn as this is when they typically eat shad or similar.
These are just a few tips to use when fishing the flats for Bass.
